Ikari mice comparison*
Last Friday the Ikari mice were set for pre-order on the SteelSeries Online Shop and since then we have received a lot of questions regarding how the mice are in comparison with other mice out there.
Here are a few pictures with the Ikari Optical and a bunch of other well-known mice. Pictures only say so much but it’s better than nothing.

*Updated with a picture comparing the height of Ikari with the above mice - here you go Gill! :-)

looks good, was hoping for a g5-type cord however, also im not a huge fan of this whole cpi or “dpi” switching business :P

humm,Crash_ I suggest you to take a side view pic to compare the mice…since most people were saying Ikari is too high, etc…I found that Ikari is as high as IME3.0 and kind of the same shape(from side view) and the shape seems to fit my hand well :D look forward to it…I wonder if freemove tech is used on Ikari Optical as well…

Also, are you guys gonna send sample to gotfrag and other websites for reviews?I mean most people want to view reviews before they buy them

Another suggestion(maybe you guys have done it): attack specific mouse skates to these mice, and have these specific mouse skates released as well (Ikaris have big feet, need big and good shoes)

What does “Programmable macro buttons” exactly mean? Is it like the g15 keyboard function or something different?
November 2nd, 2007 11:14
It means that you can assign a macro to a button of the mouse. This macro can be put on the mouse with a software (not to be mistaken as a driver) and is then stored on the mouse for plug&play.

Gill:
Since it’s my job, you can be sure that reviews of the new products, will be avalible shortly after lauch. And of course a site like GotFrag is top priority… :)

Thomas, do you guys attach special mouse skates to the mice?(suggested if not)What’s the point of developing optical when laser seems to claim the “KING OF GAMING MOUSE” in ss’s view?

How much CPI will ‘have’ the Ikari Optical? Personally I’d like to have the ability to switch between 400 & 800 CPI. But hey! SteelSeries is not my company. So it’s not my decision. ^^ So I must say, you guys just built some very cool things over the last years, but I don’t use any of ‘em. I ‘ve just given my first and only SteelSeries mouse pad, the SX, to my sister. Cuz.. let’s say it’s not my taste. I think I really like cloth pads more. Got the FatPad. The point is, I want a new mouse. And your Ikari seems to be quite good. No lights on it or any other toy-style gimmicks. Basically the Ikari Optical would fit my taste. The only important things a mouse should have or can do, is, it should have a good ergonomy and it should have a infrared sensor, no laser. The rest is more secondary. *gg* I’m looking forward to the end of November.

Sorry for my bad english. I know it’s not the best. I hope you understand everything I wanted to describe.
Cheers!

#8 they have huge f**kin skates on the ikari. and i would guess that they have an optical version because it will sell. i don’t recall when ss said laser is king.

:D looks like it’s what I was expecting…what is the clothing?seems like the same as MIE3.0 Original…or it’s a proven clothing(also the grip) that’s sweat absorable(hopefully)

Looks promising. I especially like the height. Only thing troubling me is the width of the mouse. When I have to make a huge turn, like a 180, I often have to do it in two flips with my hand. After the first flip one has to bring the mouse back to its starting point to do the next flip, and having to do that fast. I have noticed I dont lift the mouse, but tilt it up from the pad. Considering the mouse’s width, that seems fairly difficult.
Nevertheless it looks good :)

Again…#14,u got ur mouse already!?
November 16th, 2007 12:10
#15 No, you misunderstood my post. I merely judged the mouse by its design.

After feeling one of these at i32 I have mine (optical) on pre-order coming in at the end of the month.
Amazing feeling and after speaking to the Steelseries representative I was sold.
#14 you may be better with your msi1.1se it was quite wide.
November 17th, 2007 03:55
Wide mouse actually sounds good for my manly pinky finger. Ever play DM for 3 hours and get a pain in your pinky? Happens to me ALL the time.
_jon did you get any play-testing done or just a feel?
November 23rd, 2007 15:34
Is it just me, or does the Ikari look like a left handed mouse in those pictures?
November 24th, 2007 12:49
da_man, have you ever noticed your third middle finger is longer than your index finger? Theres method to SteelSeries madness :).
Mouse looks great but I, too, am worried about the width, it looks as wide as one of those new Logitech Revolution mice.
November 25th, 2007 12:41
Actually, the mouse is slimmer than a DeathAdder (which is slightly too wide for me). The Ikari’s main body is pretty slim, it just flares out for the thumb/pinky to rest on.
I’m really looking forward to buying this mouse. Too bad its not available in Canada yet.

i think it’ll be popula as mime3.0 or better

(I play at high sens) :D
