Delays for the WoW MMO Gaming Mouse

We hate to say this - but we simply can’t keep up with demand on the new World of Warcraft MMO Gaming Mouse. We know, it sucks. For all of you who pre-ordered it, and for all of you waiting to get it in retail.

We are doing our very best to ramp up production, but it’s proving really difficult to keep up with demand. The issue we are running into relates to the production of the mouse surface. The surface isn’t just your regular piece of plastic. It requires a delicate and time-consuming process with numerous steps divided into 6 phases to make it look like a piece of armor. To underline the unique touch of each unit, it’s worth mentioning that every mouse gets a real metal plating as well as a hand brushed finish.

The phases are shown on the picture below where each treatment is represented by each piece in the fan:

We put a lot of love into our products and we are committed to delivering quality without compromises. We know that many of you are eagerly awaiting this product, and we apologize for the delays and any inconvenience this might have caused.

We are doing our best to fulfill the overwhelming and unprecedented demand for this product and have expanded our manufacturing capacity considerably, in an effort to get this mouse shipping to customers as soon as possible. We are currently reaching out to all pre-orders customers with an update regarding their specific order. We hope to be able to meet demand soon and will keep you all posted.

    Thank you for the update.

It would be nice to have a ‘no earlier than’ release date.
I’d personally like to know if this will be available before Christmas.

You might also want to post an update on the Amazon product page. There’s a lot of people that seem to be canceling their orders over there.

More updates would go a long way to keeping your customers from going even more rabid than they already are…

    Casper,

Just wanted to send a thank you for the update. It does suck having to be pushed back, but at least now we have some reason why and are not left holding nothing but our pre-order receipts, lol. By the way, the picture above and the detailed description of the manufactoring process makes me want it even more. Thanks again!

When you mention that you’re reaching out to pre-order customers, do you mean only those who pre-ordered through your company’s online store?

Will the pre-orders through such retailers as Gamestop or Newegg be filled concurrently with those made through your online store, or are they lower priority?

I appreciate that you’ve broken the silence on your product’s delays, but the devil is in the details here.

This is a bit off topic but did you send any demo units to any review sites? I am a potential customer but I would like to know from an independent reviewer as to how the laser stacks up to other mice.

I spoke with the Gamestop store where I made my preorder and they gave me a release date of December 23. I’ll either have my mouse or cancel my order on that day.

I pre-ordered this as I am sure a large number of people did from a retailer for a present. Will you be able to fill these orders anytime soon? It would be really awful to have to scramble at the last minute to replace this gift with something else simply because of having no guarantee that the orders will ever be honored….

Something must be wrong with quality control otherwise they would at the minimum ship the ones they have made. It’s like a Xbox, PS3 or Wii saying they aren’t shipping any for Christmas because they don’t have enough for everyone.

Not true. I they had 50k mice available and ound out that thru them and variou retailers hey had 970k pre ordered… how are they to decide where they 50k fiinished product go? It’d be a bad business decision to prioritize any one distributor. The will wait until they can maintain a majority of the orders before shipping. even if they don’t, they certainly won’t let it be public knowledge who they are shipping to. It’d cause a mass of cancelled preorders to various companies in favor of the companies that are getting shipments.

Wrong, it is worse to hold onto a finished product and get no revenue rather than not being able to fill all preorders simulaniously. The numbers you through out are horribly inaccurate. No worthwhile business would miss the product mark by that amount. There would be more cancelled preorders from not releasing at all rather than not releasing enough.

GoGamer Customer Service replied to an email saying, “Hello, The World of Warcraft MMO Gaming Mouse is still on hold and we might be running late on this item. This is the third time we push the item back again as we do not have a release date on it yet.”

This has just gotten very frustrating for me. I was very patient with the first few delays. But now it’s just so annoying that even canceling the order wouldn’t help anything. I just want the mouse and I want Blizzard to know how much they have ticked me off.

A release date doesn’t get pushed back 4 times simply because there are more pre-orders than expected. Gamestop has pulled the mouse from their website. It’s clearly a more complex issue than we are being lead to believe.

So I called GameStop because the last thing they told me was “It will be here on the 16th”. Now the manager tells me “We don’t have it, and according to our system, we will never get it. So it is either in transit, or it has been scrapped.”

It doesn’t bug me so much that SteelSeries is taking a long time to manufacture these mice, but it does frustrate me that they won’t keep the stores updated as to what’s going on.

So what do I do now? Cancel my pre-order that GameStop says they will never get? Will this put me on the bottom of the list to get one? I thought SteelSeries said they are filling pre-orders first, so I’d hate to cancel my order. But I don’t like giving a 2 month loan to GameStop either.

This is the third time I’ve seen them change the date even though someone from Customer Service told me not to worry about it shipping on 12/12. Another one told me they don’t have a release date. If they don’t know the exact release date, isn’t this false advertising?

SteelSeries should do something about GoGamer. At least, Gamestop took off a release date.

I cancelled my order a week ago and had not seen many falming about it. Now I see this and am feeling better about my decision to go in another direction. If quality is the issue, I applaud their decision. However, I do think it’d of been advisable to ship in the order pre-orders had been made. It’d of actually driven demand, kept folks like me from cancelling, rather than slowly but surely watching folks cancel orders completely to game with very capable mice. Will I buy one of these mice in time? Sure, if the price drops, and I bump into in a store. I doubt I am the only one who’s lost interest.

It seems the majority of people commenting on this blog are GameStop customers, so here’s an update on what we know:

Let me underline: GameStop did _NOT_ cancel any orders.

The mouse was basically pulled of the site until the current pre-orders are fulfilled (which makes a lot of sense). Shipments are on the road to GS as we speak however we can’t comment on whether or not every single one of the pre-orders will be processed before Christmas Eve. :)

I am getting so close to cancelling my order … I paid full price up front, ordered from GameStop … and waited with patience through 4 delays. I understand the issue with meeting demand due to production issues but at this point there is no *release* date and the whole … “Well we shipped some, but we can’t say anything on the number we shipped or how we are shipping them out” just leaves me in hopeful fit of anticipation each day waiting for GameStop to get their shipment in for the day.

While I think telling all the stores to stop taking orders for the mouse was great move in the right direction, shipping the mouse before you can meet all the current pre-orders is going to leave the people who won’t get one in the first *wave* feeling cheated. If your shipping to certain areas first (North East, South West), filling orders based on pre-order date, or however your doing it. You should inform your customers and the retailers who have no clue what is going on (atleast that they are willing to tell the public). It would go a long way to releaving some of the stress of “Oh, Is it going to be here today?” and “Oh, is it going to be here before Christmas?”.

  45. Scott
    December 18th, 2008 22:27
    45

Ok! Regarding my previous statement I can kinda understand SteelSeries not being able to give us any idea how the pre-orders are being handled since once they give them to GameStop it apparently becomes their problem and SteelSeries has no idea if they are going to be only doing the on-line orders first or if they are going to fulfill the in-store orders first.

… I can understand it … doesn’t help to relieve this anticipation …

GameStop stores have told me, “In most cases with PC accessories we recieve them on Friday.” So here is hoping it comes in tommorrow or … I just don’t think I can take much more of waiting …

Still nothing on the horizon from my GameStop store. They told me it wasn’t on any of their shipping lists. I’m still hoping some miracle happens and get it this year, but I’m not the most faithful person in the whole world. I’m sure it will be January at minimum before I get this mouse.

I wish they would have mass produced this mouse without the silly metal finish. I’d still pay 100 bucks for it. Make the one with the “6 step process” a limited edition or something. I just want the buttons!!!!!!!

I got both of my pre-orders from gamestop today. After going through some frustration with bindings (can’t hold the right button down and click some of the buttons) I finally just told myself I’d get used to it. WTB trouble shooting. Very VERY disappointed in the keybinds and macros. Cant use more than 1 button at once (like program the 4-way to move and middle mouse to jump and use em simultaneously) also the “supports in game macros” is a crock. I dont care about a button to open my mags or toggle auto run. Let me use, i dont know, MY IN GAME MACROS!

The quality of this mouse is $19.99. Because it has a lot of buttons it costs $99.99. Do yourself a favor and read all of the posts about broken mice and the inability to press more than one button at a time. Save yourself standing in line post Christmas and cancel your order until they completely revamp there product. Great concept, extremely poor software and quality.

  65. JRD
    December 23rd, 2008 18:37
    65

As two others said my left button was making some squeaky noises last night and occasionally got stuck. Nothing serious yet but a bit distressing performance right out of the box. I hope that with a bit of use this will go away. I have to agree with Justin a trouble shooting / software suggestion area would be greatly appreciated. While it seems to have a lot of potential, until I can get a few issues resolved I have a very expensive USB nightlight.

As for key bindings, a keystroke emulation with release of the button = release of the key or an extension of the programming to be able to send something on release. Ctrl(down) on press, Ctrl(up) on release is what I’m looking for.

Also the custom macro executes just as if you were typing in game. It is different than how in game macros work. While the pre programmed WOW functions are instantaneous the custom macros execute as if you were typing them manually and you can actually see them fill in on your command line.

An in game macro can be mapped to a button and clicked to execute even while int he middle of a line of chat. Using an out of game macro as in the case of the mouse software injects the macro into the command line exactly as if you were typing it in manually.

Still useful but as Justin says it falls a bit short of the claimed, “supports in game macros.” The only way I think this would be possible is to get the driver to recognize each button on the mouse as “Mouse Button 1″ through “Mouse Button 15″ and allow us to map them in game as a key bind. Then we could use our in game macros as a button.

As it stands currently I am making a macro for a button on a key such as ; and then binding that key to a toolbar and putting an in game macro on that toolbar slot. This does the trick nicely and honestly would be enough to keep me content. The loss of the ability to map a modifier key on the mouse however is seriously making my transition to this new mouse difficult.

Any help or feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Maybe I was a bit harsh. I expected a lot more from a mouse I paid $100 for only to have it delayed by 6 weeks and then get released with poor software.

Intended for this mouse to accompany my n52 quite nicely and as I said, was very disappointed. Im returning my mouse today and will wait till its developed a little more thoroughly.

in the meantime a new mobo/cpu or maybe a G13 might suffice.

@69 That would be nice and all, I mean I use BindPad to hot key my macros without action bars, but the ENTIRE draw to this mouse was the “in game macro support”. I shouldnt have to use a 3rd party add-on to accomplish something that Steel Series promised.

Also… That doesnt solve the issue of not being able to use more than one button at the same time, like my example of using a button to run and a button to jump, it will not recognize both commands simultaneously.

Everyones best bet is to return the mouse, if they got one. Maybe if we all band together then they will make someting worth selling for $99.00. Steelseries really mislead us all about what this mouse could do. As stated above, it is nothing more then a $99 night lite. I mean, come on for $99, it should not have parts broken within a 1/2 hour of use and it should be able to do every thing that was stated it done.

Save yourself the headache of having to package and ship it back Nick. Cancel while you can and hope they resolve the issue with better quality in the future or that someone else like Logitech comes out with a real 15 button mouse.

As suggested by #69 I did some experimenting with AutoHotKey. While I was able to map what the mouse software considers “windows button 4″ and “windows button 5″ to act as the Ctrl key and Shift key respectively this did not function in practice. While this was technically successful In experimenting however I did get what I hope will prove to be useful information to both Steel Series in updating the next driver/software package and owners for creating workarounds in the mean time.

“Left-Click” (Button 1), “Right-Click” (Button2) and “Move and Steer” (Button3) all execute a down signal when pressed and an up signal when released when left in their default positions. All can be pressed and held simultaneously and function if left in their default positions.

Issue #1: Remapping any of the other buttons as “Left-Click” or “Right-Click”, or even attempting to revers them, will execute the down signal and up signal without any delay regardless of if you click the button or hold it. AutoHotKey also differentiates between a Button 1 press in it’s default location and remapped Button 1 press. It labels this as “artificial”. This leads me to believe this is a software issue not a limitation of the hardware itself. When you leave buttons 1-3 alone the software isn’t doing anything to them. If you edit them it is overriding their normal function and attempting to send the signal for the mouse button direct to windows. In this case what the software has been instructed to send seems to be incomplete?

Issue #2: “Windows Button 4″ and “Windows Button 5″ do not appear to be supported as “real buttons”. They instead are flagged as “artificial” in AutoHotKey and send only an “up” or “release” signal. This seems to be why we are unable to map either of these 2 buttons in game.

Issue #3: When holding buttons 1, 2 and/or 3 the first press of any button on D-Pad, four top mounted buttons or the left mounted toggle switch does not execute. The second press (and subsequent presses) while holding 1, 2 and/or 3 however will execute. So again this leads me to believe this is not a hardware limitation but a problem with the software. It seems to be capable of sending simultaneous signals, it is just doing so incorrectly.

Issue #4: The two buttons above the D-Pad on the right seem to be the exception. They send no signal at all if pressed while you are holding buttons 1, 2 and/or 3 down.

Issue #5: As to the macros only initiating an “up” signal or some issuing an “up” signal with zero delay after the “down” signal; testing by mapping a button to a movement command under “Game Commands” however IS functioning properly. It presses and holds down until the button is released. Only issue #3 or #4 interfere with this.

For me personally I will continue using my old mouse (which achieved everything I’m trying to execute here) until these issues are resolved. I am hopeful now however that these are all possible fixes through a new software release. While I’m rather disheartened that this isn’t preforming properly right now I’m hopeful these issues appear to all be software related rather than physical limitations of the hardware. Hope my rambling was of use to someone.

first one way to create a macro is to lock it to a key or number of keys on the keyboard. It will then do what ever that key or key sequence would do in that game or program.

Also you dont just have in game macros. Yes there are a few defaults are there are with anything. To setup up the In Game Macro on the mouse you must first create the In Game Macro in WOW. Then on the mouse create a new custom macro useing text and type in the macro you created in WOW.

I have it and have actually done a (soon to me improved) review on it. http://theprofosist.blogspot.com/2008/12/steelseries-world-of-warcraft-wow-mmo.html

I believe the mouse is very sturdy and has a very nice feel to it and is definitely quality made as are all of SteelSeries products.

The broken mice you are talking about can all easily be fixed and these are the first batch being hurried off the lines because some people keep wanting their mouse immediately and have no patience. Also these are the first ones coming off the lines not everything is perfect right away (except for the Ikari Laser) just look at the Xbox 360.

Also people being not able to press more than one button at a time. I fairly sure that than can physically press the button and the reason why the action might no be going through is because their probably not useing In Game Macros which is when the mouse will preform at its best. Im not saying it will fix it but its worth a try right?

Yes i wish you could have a mouse have buttons 1-15 and the just set up in game the only problem is that Most OS’s only support up to 5 button mice. Also in comparison to other companies SteelSeries in handling the buttons just about the same way.

Companies took too many Pre-Orders. Companies never put a limit to the number of preorders. They have done this before with the Wii’s so why didnt they do it again when they saw all the Pre-Orders coming in. Also i believe that some companies are getting their mice through other companies so SteelSeries dont have a direct connection to them. I have two of these mice, one that I use, and one my girlfriend uses. We were both using Logitech Revolution MX’s. The build quality of this mouse does not seem anywhere near the MX. Considering they both cost exactly the same that is disappointing. THis mouse seems….I guess hollow would be the best word.

We are both having problems with squeaking and sticking of the two main mouse buttons…ie left and right click. I have tried lifting up the buttons, and then reseating them and it has not fixed, or changed the problem at all.

I seriously would not recommend this mouse. The build quality is nowhere near what I was expecting considering the price tag, and reputation of Steelseries. It not only broke the first day of use, but the feel of the mouse is just to fragile. Also, the button layout at least for me is a little odd. The two buttons behind the scroll wheel are placed strangely and very hard to press. Also there are two buttons that are situated next to your pinky but you have to press sideways with your pinky to hit them. This just doesn’t work in a practical manner and I have already ended up just forgetting about them.

In general there is not much I like about this mouse. I guess it looks cool is the best thing I can say about it, but unfortunately that is the least important thing about a mouse.

Oh and a quick point about some of the comments made. The fact that the mouse was rushed was only the fault of Steelseries. There would not have been a group of angry people waiting for their mouse if they had not started a pre-order campaign far to early, and set dates that they could not keep.

Sorry, but you always do better if you don’t give a solid date until…oh I don’t know…THE DATE IS SOLID!

Haha apparently I posted this in z wrong place at first.

New details of the suckage of this mouse. I decided to return them to Gamestop to get another mouse to see if maybe it was just bad luck. They told me they did not have anymore in stock, but…nearly every person that bought the mouse from this store has reported the same problem. The two main mouse buttons, right and left click, stick.

HAHA, so sad, returning this sucker asap.

    To TheProfosist

Yes, I DID own two of the mice, both returned the next day for bad software, poor quality, and broken parts. I don’t know if you are an employee or a fanboy of SteelSeries, but your sarcastic assumptions are uncalled for and not helpful.

Clearly you lack any sense of business knowledge because you are wrong about the target audience of the mouse and you are wrong about when to release a product. You don’t lie to your customers and say the repeated delays are because their aren’t enough to fill all the pre-orders when clearly it was a quality issue from the beginning.

Rushing a crappy product for Christmas and having a majority of them returned is far worse than pushing the release date back and getting it right. People who cancel because it’s not out in time for Christmas still had the potential to order again if they heard about how great the mouse was once it did come out. Instead, SteelSeries put out an unfinished product that many people are returning and others are canceling their pre-order on because of other user’s experiences.

Everything about this mouse is fail except for the concept. As someone else stated, maybe a company like Logitech will pick up the idea and actually make a mouse worth buying.

It works fine for about 5 minutes then just freezes, the lights still work but the cursor just freezes to my screen and i cant do anything anymore with the mouse. If i unplug it an plug it back in it works fine again but for about 5 minutes. I already tried different usb ports even cleaning them. My pc is about 2 months old, quadcore and shizzle so i dont believe its the usb ports or even the usb drivers. I had the same problem with mine. I deleted the software and reinstalled it with the mouse connected. Things were fine afterward…… until I touched my mouse with static. Somethings just don’t work well together….metal casing and static electricity.

All i can say guys is let SteelSeries know your concerns i was told their revising the mouse Q1 of 09. Posting it here wont do jack is just a blog send in a support ticket. And to everyone out there with broken mice yes there are perfectly working mice out there i have 2 with not a single problem with anything. They have really high failure rates due to the fact of having to push it out so fast just after acquiring Ideazon. The leftovers of which were put on the development of this mouse. I personally never liked Ideazons products and this could easily have been theirs before the merge just compare it to The Ikari Laser and SteelSeries mentality behind that. The mice are like yin and yang to each other. Id say just treat this product like everyone originally treated the Xbox 360 its a great product if you get a working one. I feel in the future they will get this mouse up to par with there others but it just isnt at the moment. And remember if your having problems contact SteelSeries because posing here wont help one bit. The more they know what problems were having the better mouse they can make in the future.

For those of you who happen to have received a mouse with an error, we of course apologize, but _PLEASE_ go through support instead of hoping to find solutions on how to fix the mouse here in the comments for a blogpost.

Our support center is ready and waiting for your questions, so it would be a shame to see numerous people cancel their order due to reading a few comments on a blog, instead of getting a answer or help from the actual source - which is definitely not the comments-field on this blog, however through the contact options on www.steelseries.com

The stores in Sweden says the mouse have a manufacturing fault and that is the reason why it’s not released yet here. I been waiting on my pre-order since september 19…

I don’t understand why the stores in the US keep people in the dark…?

But the main thing I don’t understand is how Steelseries decide to sell a faulty mouse when they knew it’s broken?
Are they trying to destroy their reputation or something?

Would be nice to get an offical answer from a steelseries employee to my mail: muspk@live.com

    The Golden Failure

This is probably the best looking mouse I’ve ever owned. Sadly it’s plagued by poor software and faulty hardware.

    ..Wall of Text incoming…

    Getting the Mouse…

I didn’t pre-order this mouse. My assumption was that I’d be able to pick one up when they came out. I was very wrong and after many delays only pre-orders were being filled. I’ve been calling Gamestop stores for the past month checking on the release dates. Finally they start coming in, but they’re only for pre-orders. Several managers let me know that if someone doesn’t pick up their pre-order, then they’d be able to sell the mouse and to call back after Christmas to check.

I’ve been using the stock checker from the Gamestop website to see which stores might have the mouse. I finally got a confirmation of a canceled pre-order at a Gamestop 2 hours away. The manager tells me he can’t hold it, but he won’t offer it to anyone else. I have the mouse in-hand 2hrs later.

    The Good….

    The packaging is amazing.
    The mouse looks amazing.

    The Bad & Ugly…

The mouse is a little large.
The large thumb button above the D-Pad button is very hard to press when comfortably holding the mouse.
The “Pinky” button is also very hard to use when comfortably holding the mouse.

Understand that these comments are from only using the mouse for a couple hours. Since a couple hours was all it took to break the mouse. Barely touching the mouse now triggers that the small thumb button has been clicked. This makes it very hard to navigate anything in a browser; since it does an immediate back action. I’ve created a very lengthy ticket with Steelseries support—given the holiday though they’re closed for a couple of days so I’m still waiting for a response.

    Other Issues:

    Left Mouse Button
Feels sticky, sometimes double clicking doesn’t work.

    Left/Right Mouse Buttons
Sometimes stops working. Audible clicks, but no feedback from windows that a left or right mouse click occurred. Randomly starts working again. This also occurs in WoW as well. However I’m using the “Clique” mod in WoW to assign button combinations. Using Shift+Left or Shift+Right clicks work even when single Left or Right clicks do not function. This leads me to believe that this is a problem with the steelseries software for the mouse.

    Windows Button 4/5 assignment
If you assign these buttons to any other buttons on the mouse, they do not work within WoW.

    Thumb buttons
The small thumb button is very random on when/if it works. Using “Clique” I currently have Shift+Button4 as Holy Shock and Shift+Button5 as Turn Evil. Watching the event logs in WoW, I noticed that randomly Shift+Button5 not only attempted to cast Turn Evil, but it also attempted to cast Holy Shock. So for some reason the large thumb button is sometimes transmitting a Windows button 4 and Windows button 5 click. I believe this was an early indication of hardware problems as mentioned above about the small thumb button being triggered by just barely touching the mouse (as this started occurring after using the mouse for a couple of hours).

    Steelseries Software

This is probably the worst mouse software I’ve ever seen.

Terminating the process for the software results in a Blue Screen of Death within 5 minutes of terminating the process; termination is required since there is no way to unload the process cleanly (for example an Exit option).

    Keystroke Assignment
There does not seem to be an easy way to assign keystrokes to a button (such as shift, ctrl, alt, etc…). Now there could be a way to do this, but it wasn’t apparent.

    Injecting Time Delays into Macros
I’m pretty sure this is against the WoW Terms of Service. How did this feature make it through?

    Macros
Who even thought it was a good idea to emulate a keyboard and feed these “custom” macros into WoW as text? If you trigger one of these macros you get locked out of using your keyboard. So forget using one of these “custom” macros while you’re moving. So the macro’ing system provided by steelseries is totally useless for instant actions. Not to mention the software should have some kind of game detection so the macros don’t try to activate in windows (the Curse Client seems to do this pretty easily). Accidentally pressing a button spams text wherever the cursor might be.

Honestly, why wouldn’t steelseries write a custom in-game mod using the WoW API to accomplish this functionality? This software screams pre-alpha, was it even tested?

    Ditching the software
If you uninstall the steelseries software and just use the generic windows mouse drivers you will have access to all the standard mouse buttons (left/right, thumb button 1/2, scroll click). Your last illumination settings will stay; so set those before you uninstall the software. I thought this might be a simple solution to using the mouse, but the random small thumb button event triggering all the time killed this option. Maybe this will work for someone else that has a mouse that works, but doesn’t want to use the steelseries software right now.

    Conclusion

If you want an expensive paperweight, buy this mouse. Otherwise wait until they have their manufacturing and software bugs worked out. I’m going back to using my MX Revolution for now.

If all the delays were in making the shell for the mouse, couldn’t Steelseries have at least made sure the internal hardware wasn’t junk.

    Epic fucking failure.

See if this step by step works for any business out there:
    Step 1
Announce a great product with a target market of at least 11 million gamers

    Step 2
Align the release of your product to coincide with the most anticipated expansion pack…ever!

    Step 3
Totally forget the 11 million players part.

    Step 4
Push back your product release date

    Step 5
Push back your product release date

    Step 6
Push back your product release date

    Step 7
Push back your product release date–only this time you also add a message explaining why you have to push it back.

    Step 8
Miss the last release date for about 90% of us, but put out a product that is NOT up to par and then tell everyone to contact customer service.

    Step 9
Tell everyone to stop complaining on the blog because you cant help them from here–even though we know it’s because your bottom line is taking a fucking beating from all the bad publicity.

    Step 10
Be certain *and this is most important* to not update any of the blogs on the current status, but instead post how your 15 button paperweight won a gold gamers award. Nothin’ like stickin’ it to your customers…genius!

Just my opinion, I could be more full of shit than a whale with no ass. I stuck with you guys for as long as I could. This is no way to treat customers, plain and simple. Good luck in the future as I would love to see this mouse working to it’s full potential.

Well I was contacted by customer service.

    …….
As for the button 4 getting activated just by pressing the back of the mouse, this may be a hardware issue.

I would recommend returning it back to your original point of purchase to get a replacement or credit.

    Thanks,

I see people talking about canceled preorders beeing send and so on. Does this mean that the new mice beeing send out don’t have these bugs anymore? Or do all the mice that are beeing send out by steelseries still have a change to bug? And if the “new” mice are fixed is there a way of knowing what is a “new” or what is a “old” mice?
I’m still waiting to recive my mouse and i’m realy thinking about canceling my order atm.

Thx in advance for your awnsers

Woot I fixed it, sort of. I did what someone posted above and lifted button till it cracked, which breaks a little lug on the front of the button next to where it joins the middle, and therefore prolly voids the warranty. It still squeeked like a mouse on heat, but then I lifted again and noticed the plastic from the lug was a bit untidy, so just sort of fingernailed it smooth and no squeek!!!
It still has a clunky press compared to the right, and thanks to the missing lug it has a bit more movement, but its working now and the rest of the buttons are sweet. As for not being able to press two buttons at once… I hold down the left and right buttons to move and can hit the jump button on the mouse with no trouble, so thats ok, asides from the left button everything is as advertised.

Your right nuthead, it is a fail, and oceanz, although my mouse works, the left button still isn’t acceptable as it needs far to much preasure to use it and double clicking is a bitch. I would cancel my order and wait till steelseries first of all acknowledge the problem with the left button and then announce they have fixed it, and then get one of the new ones, till then its not even worth sending back for another buggy one.

A fix for those with squeaky buttons, slightly less invasive than the “pull it up till it breaks” method described above:

On my mouse, the left button started sticking down w/in 10 minutes of setup, and soon was effectively glued in the down position. After a little experimentation, i found that if I nudged the small button to the left of the scroll wheel away from the left button, it would click smoothly.

Fix: take a utility knife / x-acto blade and scrape gently away at the edge of the left button where it touches the topmost part of the small button to the left of the scroll wheel.* In my case, just a few scores with the knife was enough to stop the rubbing and free the button. It works perfectly now. My jury’s still out on whether or not I prefer it to my previous mouse.

To quality control: WTF? This is definitely an epic phail.

I was wanting one of these mice, but I’m not too sure after reading the problems owners are having. I understand the delays because of the huge demand for this mouse, and the fact that parts of it are hand made (assembled). It seems to me that it might be a better idea to not make such an elaborate looking mouse and mass manufacture it instead focusing on build quality, reliability and durability. I’m not saying the manufacturer doesn’t care about quality etc, but it seems like a lot of time and effort is being spent on the looks and elaborate hand assembly.

I have a Logitech G9 mouse among others…it’s nothing to look at but works great and I’ve have had zero problems. The novelty of how “cool” the Steelseries mouse looks wears off quickly if it won’t perform or isn’t reliable. This isn’t a dig at Steelseries, just a few thoughts about how to speed production and make a product that will satisfy customers.

Well, I slammed them when they were late and when the mouse started making noise. Turn-about is fair. My mouse has quit making the noise and is working great! The in game setups are awesome. Setting up macro’s and customizing the mouse is very easy and very well laid out. The mouse feels good in your hands and looks unreal pulsating on the desk. This is the gaming experience I was hoping for. My original order made it to the store yesterday so I am going to go get it too. The new software makes all the difference btw. I am elated with this mouse now. Would I pre-order again and go through all the hassle? Surely not. Would I purchase it if I saw one on the shelf? Decidedly so. It’s a great product SS, I just hate we ran into all the push backs. Either way, this has been an experience and the mouse is flat out awesome!

So This morning I walked back to the store (GameStop) and returned it for a new one. Got home and the left button stuck on the first click! with all the noise there as well. So back again and now home with number 3.. just as the first this one was a dream at first.. but after 1h gaming Im back to the same stuck left button!! After taking a closer look on the problematic mouse I find that it is not the left mouse button that is really the problem. The sound and the ’stucking’ comes from the left-top-extra-button sitting to close at its front part with the left button. If one press and hold this button at the same time as clicking the normal leftbutton the normal button will work as intended. So what can be done? well find a way to make them not touch and problem is fixed. Knife? chainsaw? oil? well you take a pic…

Second the premade settings of this thing are so frikin bad. Button 10 of mine opens character phane Rep phane open chat and writes stopattack….. WTF!!

After 4-5 hours i finaly managed to assign some attacks and stuff to the buttons. Bu that time i was so fed up i just went to bed.

This has the worst software ever. Not sure what Steelseries was thinking releasing this mouse with software that doesn’t support the action bar spells for wow. I mean really what were they thinking? The action bars that are named in the software are completly different than the naming of the action bars within wow. Even then getting your spells etc. bound to the keys is impossible. Major problem with pushing middle mouse to cast a spell also, even though any cheap mouse can do it, the wow mouse cannot unless you’re standing still. If you try to move while holding down right mouse button it won’t cast the middle mouse spell.

HORRIBLE SOFTWARE, MOUSE FAILS UNTIL IT’S FIXED. DO NOT BUY!

Got my mouse today, FINALY. Played whit it for a couple of hours now and so far i don’t have any problems. I hope this stays like this.
Getting spell on my buttons was rather easy for me. All i did was set the buttons to a random “special action button X” and the keybind the stuff in wow.

The only problem i having is macro’s in the mouse software don’t work for me. Again to solve this I made the macro’s in game and the simply keybind it in a hidden spellbar.

This mouse handels prefectly very quick response i how ever think it’s a bit big. Left en right mouse buttons seem a bit far appart for my hands. However i might just still be getting used to it all.

So far i’m giving this a 7.5/10. I just hope i don’t run into any of the above mentioned problems.

THEN it wouldnt let me click on the windows toolbar, so id have to ctrl alt del to get it to work again. finally after 2 days strait of fiddling with it and waiting for a response, i plugged in my logitech and took it back to the store and got a refund.

I am having the same problem with the mouse not working. I just got the thing yesterday. I love the idea and the way it feels. But no resolution to the problem means all these mice will be refunded. Nice business solution in a bad economy. Really was excited about this since I am a “clicker”, now I am ready to quit all together. Tired of Blizzards empty promises. Not worth the money I paid for the mouse and my account dues.

would be nice to hear some positive feed back rather than these impatient morons that dont know how to read about the recall, such as 158.

FACT: most of the wow player base is comprised of complete idiots

yes the delays suck, yes its lame that they shipped broken mice, no theres no really an excuse for it, it was foolish to rush them out to appease this moronic player base, but they are trying to get stuff fixed… even though its coming close to half a year now

Nice mouse, software is horrible. I bought this thinking the software would be available from within the game, no such luck. It also bluescreens my Vista setup, was fine under XP. So nice mouse, crappy software. Hopefully it will be updated, I really got used to playing with it now and can’t play without!

I was very interested in this mouse but there seems to be a number of issues that are not being addressed or at least some response even user error or a website explaining how to circumvent these real or preceved concerns. It is now the end of February and I have seen nothing on potential delivery dates (unless I lived in Germany) or resolution of the above issues. I understand that some eggheads have made theirs work. I want to plug it in and go lol. Please post a response to the above issues and potential delivery dates in the US. Thank you

I received my mouse a few days ago. So far no problem with the left or right click squeaking people with past models have mentioned. There is a degree of false advertisement to this product however which will be one of my reasons of a return.

The areas of the mouse that light up are limited to the first 3 slivers of light starting from the bottom. The 4th sliver of light does not light up all the way and this is not a defect its by design.

The extra buttons are very cheaply made and ARE NOT brushed metal style like the rest of the mouse.

The overall feel of the mouse is kind of cheap and for 99.99 it leaves you feeling like youre missing something. The scroll key not having a “free-spin” is one of the things that leaves this mouse behind the current gen mice out there. There is also no weight adjustment for those inclined to a heavier mouse as this is very light and cheap feeling which is good if you like light.

There are 2 wings of the mice which will take alot of getting used to. The one on the left is good, but the one on the right is downright uncomfortable and this is not speaking from preference. You will have cramped fingers for a few days as you adjust.

The software of the mouse is working fine on plug and play. The “macros” that it can be programmed for are absolutely terrible. They just type in the game what you type in there, and not even how the game does it, it will interrupt any sentences you are typing.

The positives of the mouse will and do lie in its looks — however, the extra buttons do not follow the theme of the mouse and ruin the only positive points it has. My advice would be to steer clear of this mouse unless you are purely going for aesthetics.

We got our WOW mouse a few weeks ago, and we absolutely LOVE it. It was really easy to configure, and after using it for 30 minutes I can’t go back to playing WOW without it.

My question is, will there be drivers so I can use it with Mac OSX? We are thinking about switching to a Macbook Pro (for several reasons), and I really hope we can still use the new mouse :)

I went back and forth for weeks and didn’t buy this mouse because of all the negative reviews I had read about it. I finally broke down and bought the mouse about 2 weeks ago. It’s an awesome mouse. When it works.

Suddenly, for no reason at all. The 4 way pad and Windows Button 4 and 5 stopped working. Tried uninstalling/reinstalling the software and any other troubleshooting ideas I could find online. Eventually the mouse pretty much stopped functioning altogether.

This mouse has left me very angry and disappointed. The bottom line is Steel Series knows this is a defective product and they choose to rip people off anyway. To anyone that is even considering purchasing this mouse. DONT DO IT. Save yourself a headache and your hard earned cash for something else!

With the new copy&paste feature Im able to implement all the custom macros I want into the game. The issue there is the copy&paste system is terrible. If you’re doing ANYTHING at all at the same time you press the button, whatever you were pressing AND the macro will show up in a chatbox, because the developers were extremely lazy and made the macro system work via wow’s chatbox. When I try to do Text(Auto Delay), Record Delay, or No Delay all I can type in is the macro name…. nothing in the actual box. I’d heard somewhere that you have to have the exact same macro in game and it’ll work that way. So I tried that and nothing happened. I figured I could just unbind all the mouse’s keys and just keybind them to a hidden action-bar in game but the only buttons that do work are button 4 and 5, so thats another terrible feature. I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled the software a few times and nothing changes.

Did I really pay over $100 (after tax) for a mouse that has only one of four working macro implementing function that works terribly?

    Hi,
    Just got “The Mouse” today.

    some problems :
uses Querty for typing, there is no option to change this to Azerty.
Left side button is too far up and can’t be reached while using the mouse normaly
Very little information about the Macro functions, not even an example.. I can’t use it right now, thats why i’ve been searching the web for 2 hours now..
No updated manual for the new “copy and past” macro function. not good if your a macro noob

    Good things:
I love the 2 buttons next to the mousewheel, the 10 possible characters that can be configured and each can have a different Light color.
The thumb button is a little low on quality, but a very good idea. 4 small round buttons would have been better.
Oh,and if Blizzard supports this mouse, they should put a few options for it in their menu’s (only visible if the mouse is detected?)
Good mouse, worth about 40-50 $

This mouse looks great but is a complete dud. I haven’t been able to get any support for it at all. At this point it doesn’t work at ALL with my computer, even though I have uninstalled it completely and reinstalled the software.

Awesome mouse…when it works. It’s true that there are issues with Win 7 64 bit; it doesn’t work with the latest software version (1.06). They’re aware of this issue, as mentioned in their FAQ section, but there hasn’t been an update for weeks.

Also, while visually stunning, this mouse shows signs of wear and tear too easily. The top layer of the “hand brushed” metalic layer peels off, and even rusts. If you have a nickel allergy, I would avoid this mouse a well.
