Upcoming WoW Mouse software update

As done earlier this month, we are currently preparing to launch a new software update for the WoW MMO Gaming Mouse. One of the main reasons for this forthcoming update is the fact that a few software issues affected some WoW Mouse users’ ability to take full advantage of the button programming capability on the mouse.

We have addressed some of the issues in the recent software update and are currently working to resolve the remaining known issues. Before listing the planned updates, I want to explain a little bit further about some of the software changes.

First off, we’ve received complaints quite a few times from customers trying to rebind buttons to continuously send a single key. This is a known issue since currently all custom macros are treated as long macros and therefore only allowed to be sent once or looped a given number of times. This will be fixed in the February update as shown below - for now you can use the commands from the Game Commands list which are handled correctly and can be repeated.

Secondly, some users had trouble finding their character names when using the built-in armory window. When encountering this problem, make sure that you can find your character using The World of Warcraft Armory website, remember to select your region correctly and check the spelling as well.

A known issue regarding finding your character name, is that when the name contains any special European characters (accented letters, etc.), the software is not able to read it properly and therefore can’t find the character. As you can see below, this issue will also be fixed in the next software update.

Finally, here’s the list of fixes planned for the upcoming release, which will be available last week of February:

1. Fix armory linking for character names that contain non-standard characters such as accented letters, etc.

2. Fix repeat rate for single key mappings – now you will be able to press and “hold down” the button if it’s mapped to a single key.

3. Fix mouse button 4 and 5 for non-default assignments.

4. Some translation and layout fixes for localized versions.

Of course we’ll do another post here on the blog prior to the software update launch in case more fixes will be included and, looking forward, make sure software updates are quickly shared with WoW Mouse customers as soon as they are released.

Will this new software allow you to press buttons while holding down the right mouse button? I remember reading somewhere in these blogs that the mouse only recognizes one button push at a time.

This is the single reason I can’t buy your mouse yet.

Current 1.02 driver still not fix issue that, while hold right or left button, window key 4and 5 cant operate, and while hold right or left button, D-pad have to press twice to get operate.
$99 is way too expensive for the mouse that i cannot use it even basic operation. Is it take that long another four weeks for fixing these issue?, any quick hotfix for $99 mouse? or its not include support from the company?

    How properly do you mean.
You try to click it while holding right mouse?
Its was bind with single preset actionbar provide by software, no any fancy macro used. Its still not operate while holding right mouse.
I did not see any hardware problem with this because of it operate normal with single click only this button, but not while hold other button.
Its has been many ppl have this issue. As i qoute from JRD

As suggested by #69 I did some experimenting with AutoHotKey. While I was able to map what the mouse software considers “windows button 4? and “windows button 5? to act as the Ctrl key and Shift key respectively this did not function in practice. While this was technically successful In experimenting however I did get what I hope will prove to be useful information to both Steel Series in updating the next driver/software package and owners for creating workarounds in the mean time.

“Left-Click” (Button 1), “Right-Click” (Button2) and “Move and Steer” (Button3) all execute a down signal when pressed and an up signal when released when left in their default positions. All can be pressed and held simultaneously and function if left in their default positions.

Issue #1: Remapping any of the other buttons as “Left-Click” or “Right-Click”, or even attempting to revers them, will execute the down signal and up signal without any delay regardless of if you click the button or hold it. AutoHotKey also differentiates between a Button 1 press in it’s default location and remapped Button 1 press. It labels this as “artificial”. This leads me to believe this is a software issue not a limitation of the hardware itself. When you leave buttons 1-3 alone the software isn’t doing anything to them. If you edit them it is overriding their normal function and attempting to send the signal for the mouse button direct to windows. In this case what the software has been instructed to send seems to be incomplete?

Issue #2: “Windows Button 4? and “Windows Button 5? do not appear to be supported as “real buttons”. They instead are flagged as “artificial” in AutoHotKey and send only an “up” or “release” signal. This seems to be why we are unable to map either of these 2 buttons in game.

Issue #3: When holding buttons 1, 2 and/or 3 the first press of any button on D-Pad, four top mounted buttons or the left mounted toggle switch does not execute. The second press (and subsequent presses) while holding 1, 2 and/or 3 however will execute. So again this leads me to believe this is not a hardware limitation but a problem with the software. It seems to be capable of sending simultaneous signals, it is just doing so incorrectly.

Issue #4: The two buttons above the D-Pad on the right seem to be the exception. They send no signal at all if pressed while you are holding buttons 1, 2 and/or 3 down.

Issue #5: As to the macros only initiating an “up” signal or some issuing an “up” signal with zero delay after the “down” signal; testing by mapping a button to a movement command under “Game Commands” however IS functioning properly. It presses and holds down until the button is released. Only issue #3 or #4 interfere with this.

For me personally I will continue using my old mouse (which achieved everything I’m trying to execute here) until these issues are resolved. I am hopeful now however that these are all possible fixes through a new software release. While I’m rather disheartened that this isn’t preforming properly right now I’m hopeful these issues appear to all be software related rather than physical limitations of the hardware. Hope my rambling was of use to someone.

Its over 5 weeks and issue still cannot fix? and need another 4 weeks to see if its will fix or not?

I love this mouse as a design, but it’s basically UNUSABLE because of one small driver bug:

[If you’re holding down the right mouse button, the first click of ANY custom button does not register.]

ie yes you can click two buttons simultaneously, but you need to do so repeatedly. If this one small but fatal flaw were to be fixed, everything else becomes manageable.

Why then, do we have to wait another MONTH for such a fix ? Progressive smaller driver patches PLEASE, not a month waiting for you to include less important smaller fixes into the package.
If, as a manufacturer, this driver (that we’ll apparently have to wait until the end of february for!) misses again, you’ll have put a product on the market without functioning drivers for over quarter of a year.

I’m disappointed with the mouse, this situation with the buttons not working right really makes the game play so irritating that i had to go back to my old mouse. so as of today the 10th i downloaded the new patch for wow and now all of my hot keyed buttons are not working. Left-click Right-click and windows button 4 and 5 work but all the others will not. Im no even useing macros. for example: i assigned Action Button 11 to the inner button (directly right of Left-Click) labeled as “1″ and it will not cast the spell. Im assuming blizzards new patch may have messed things up with the mouses software? any one else getting this?

    Hi this is to everyone!!

I see a lot of potential in this mouse and because this is a software issue I know they will resolve it. This is typical for most companies selling software on tight schedules. Case in point “Microsoft” (the Software Giant) does this sort of thing all the time. Sure it pisses people off but then when the updates start rolling in and the software starts to work, we say nothing.

So Steelseries you goofed up your software, Fix it and I know I will enjoy playing with this mouse. Until the update rolls out I will be content with my Logitech MX Revolution!

I am hoping the right mouse button issue is resolved soon. Personally, this mouse was the reason I returned to WoW - I hope this will not turn out to be a $100 mistake.

Set up any button for straif (right or left). Straif and hold down the right mouse button (to control the camera). Click any other button. Nothing happens.

Related issue - set a button to move and steer. Click any other action button. Nothing happens.

Has anyone been able to return their mouse? If the right mouse button issue is not fixed, this is a useless device.

    Guys,

We are planning to release an update that will fix most of the issues by the end of February. The exact list will be published in the release notes.
We’re also working on the tighter integration with the game to allow binding real in-game macros, however there is no concrete ETA on this yet.

I just got this mouse and basically love it (I can work around most of the issues brought up in this thread), there is one odd trait that I cannot ignore: whether in-game or out-of-game the cursor at times ‘walks’ straight down and this makes accurate clicking somewhat troubling. Is there a setting or resolution I can use to prevent this?

Still waiting to be able to successfully file an RMA… still waiting for someone to contact me. I’ve tried email, I’ve tried filing a ticket, I’ve even tried calling and leaving a voicemail for your customer support…

Meanwhile, my mouse continues to have more and more problems… The extra buttons (other than the windows 4 and 5 buttons that most mice have) no longer respond at all. I suspect that this may be related to a windows Vista update that happened recently, but I’m not sure. Tested on 2 different computers… the buttons do nothing now.

Is this something your driver update will fix? When will we see this update? The end of February is fast approaching. (Online storage for profiles still says it’s coming in January 09… might wanna update that page)

I’m trying so hard to keep using your product, guys… When it’s working, I think it’s great. I just wish it were still working.

Can you give us information on how exactly you plan on updating the macros for the software? it seems almost useless at the moment to me. its vary limited (no backspacing? who thought of that genius idea?)and i for one cant seem to figure it out. its nothing like the macros in game. it looks as though you could create some advanced macros with the ability to make them time sensitive, but unless you know exactly what you are doing and are completely accurate with spelling when trying to type fast then break then type again and get that macro time exactly how you want it it is impossible.this is my only beef with the mouse and would really like to see more out of it. so….. details?

I have expressed this issue in the forum on the previous update and will post it here.

I have had my mouse for roughly a month now, and while i havent encountered any issues with buttons or with macros, last night i ran into a problem that i cannot fix, and was wondering if any others have had this issue or know why it would have happened.

After one month of use, last night my mouse simply DIED. no reason at all, one seccond im casting spells left and right with my mouse, the next second nothing is happening. The cursor no longer moves, the lights are no longer on, and the buttons no longer work. for all intensive purposes, last night my mouse turned into a paper weight.

Has any1 else encountered this problem?? or know what it is i need to do in order to fix this issue?? The mouse was a gift to me and has also expired the one month return policy of gamestop, so i am no SOL and am not able to return it to gamestop for a new mouse.

Had the mouse for about 3 weeks, and I hit the same problem as you. While switching profiles, the mouse became unresponsive and rapidly flashed a dull yellow then just shut off completely. It is now just as you stated, a paper weight. Haven’t had any other problems with it except this one, and I was just getting used to it to, then this. Oh well, have to exchange it then.

Havent been able to use my mouse at all yet. The big issues are:

    1. Cant bind any of they keys to fx, CTRL or ALT, SHIT etc.
    2. Whenever i use a macro it spams in chat (anoys others, thus anoying me)
    3. Profile is broken (guess its cause you use US armory ;) )

The other issues is either being fixed, or said to be fixed. But atm, it truly is a waste of money. Ive been using steel products basicly since you startet, and this is, if not fixed, my last. The service lvl is utterly c..p, the product if possibly worse.

If you cant fix it - then give a replacement product for all who bought. Something usefull, so we havent wasted our money.

I use heal bot and it list its Mouse buttons as windows buttsons 1-10. The mouse program that I have now only list 2 Windows buttons that I can assign as windows buttons 4 and 5.. Am I doing something wrong or is there a fix otw?

Guess this may be more a windows 7 issue then an actual problem with the mouse. If I run WOW normally, then the buttons on the mouse work fine. If I run WOW as administrator (needed for updates and patches) then the mouse buttons don’t work. Tried running the mouse software as administrator, but then it won’t run on start-up because it keeps asking permission.

Just noticed a new webcam site called Chat Spasm, a chat site with musicians.
