WoW Mouse software update, May 15th

Another software update has been released for the World of Warcaft MMO Gaming Mouse, featuring a list of very interesting fixes - especially the new custom macro entry method, allowing you to create macros in any language.

The new driver can be downloaded over on the SteelSeries downloads page and the complete list of release notes looks like this:

  • Added language support for Chinese & Korean.
  • Retrieving Armory characters is functioning 100%, including support of Asian character names.
  • Added China, Taiwan and Korea realm regions to the armory.
  • A new Custom Macro entry method: Copy & Paste. This new entry method features the ability to:
  • -> Control a key to start and end the macro.
-> Type or paste in a piece of text in any language, which will be output in a single line.
    -> Rapidly output your macros.
-> Edit existing macro text at any point.

  • The DPI value in Mouse Properties is now properly synchronized when the DPI is changed through the use of buttons.
  • Importing characters now recovers your Armory character data associated from your exported profile.
  • The default macros ‘Stop All’, ‘Focus’, and ‘Dismount’ have been removed.
  • GUI tweaks and touch ups, including Unicode font support for all languages.
  • A notice has been added to stress the terms of World of Warcraft EULA regarding the abuse of using macros inappropriately.

Just bought a WoW mouse today since my local store had 1 for half price. It didn’t say anything on the box it being compatible for Mac, bought I bought it anyways. I read messages last year that there were Mac drivers in the making, but it is still not available.. Shall I bring the WoW mouse back to the store? Or is it worth waiting a while longer for the drivers?

I’d bring it back. They promised us drivers in February, then never said anything about them.

You can always use something like ControllerMate until the official mac drivers are released (http://www.orderedbytes.com/controllermate/)

I can confirm that the buttons and commands are working in Windows 7 x64. I have not tested macros though I assume it would work just fine. Still not able to change the mouse color, though.

yeah dude return it. They claim they will have the mac drivers ready at the end of the year.

yeah. I big company like steel series and it takes them a year to make mac compatible drivers.

Thank fraking god for controller mate. Otherwise your pos mouse would be a paper weight. A light ass plasticy one at that too.

The copy and paste feature sends everything through the in-game chatbox…. Really?

This means you must be doing NOTHING else when pressing the buttons, or else you’ll end up sending whatever you are pressing and the macro into the chatbox…. thats just stupid and extremely lazy programming. I’m expected to use the ‘OMGWTFBBQPWN’ new Ultimate gaming mouse in such a pisspoor way that it’ll actually slow my performance instead of enhancing it…… Really?

None of the other systems work. No Delay, Text(Auto Delay), Record Delay all DO NOT WORK. The only thing that works on those is typing in the Macro name…. you cannot type in the rest of the macro. I heard you have to have an ingame Macro setup exactly the same, so I tired that, doesn’t work…. Really?

I tried setting up all the macros in-game that I wanted to use and just bind the mousekeys to them… the only ones that DO work are Mouse buttons 4&5, the others will not bind…. Really?

      So I wasted $100 on a POS night-light

      StereoMC and “Really?”,

At this stage all macros are being output through the chat. These are simple keyboard macros which have nothing to do with in-game WoW macros. We work with Blizzard on extended buttons recognition in the game itself, however this will take some time.

Currently you can only create /commands or bind buttons to keyboard keys and then assign in-game macros to them.

      Charlie Beij, Zach, bomba,

You can use ControllerMate (www.controllermate.com) - it fully supports the WoW Mouse, including all extended settings such as illumination and DPI. Currently we have no fixed ETA for the native Mac support, but we are working on it.
Thanks, NightCabbage, for replying on this.

      Smugtag,

Please ensure that you’re using the latest version 1.05. And if you still can’t find a character, please try finding it it at www.wowarmory.com

If you still experience issues, please post the realm and character name here or contact our customer support for help.

      AdamR,

We are aware of the Windows 7 RC and know that the illumination, DPI and polling rate control is not working on Windows 7 yet.
It will be fixed when the final RTM version of Windows 7 is released, but we do not officially support betas and other non-final OS versions.

      plati,

Please provide more details on your issue. What exactly does not work, is there any error messages or other info that can be useful?

A generic advice - try reinstalling the latest version 1.05 and choose an option to remove custom profiles during uninstall.

In case you still have issues, please post more details here or contact our customer support.

In general the 1.05 is not different from 1.03 in terms of kernel mode driver and mouse support, it mainly includes new macros types, localization and GUI improvements. So it should work similarly.

ONE - I appreciate the response.

How can this be called THE gaming mouse though? If this is how its intended to be used then it is not superior to any mouse in any way shape or form. The in-game chatbox macros screw up everything you’d be trying to do in a pvp situation and many raid situations. This mouse is a far cry from a utility to enhance performance and make things faster. This slows you down more than being helpful.

This is really how its supposed to be used?

      Also

‘Currently you can only create /commands or bind buttons to keyboard keys and then assign in-game macros to them.’

The Keybinds only work for buttons 4 and 5. I’ve uninstalled/re installed your newest software multiple times.

If the keybinds worked then this mouse would be awesome, and I could care less about its macro features because those are poor through a chatbox and I can make them myself. If the keybinds started to work I’d be a happy buyer, but for now this is a terrible investment.

Is there any way to assign a keypress to a button? Everytime I try to use a macro generated by your software, I invariably am moving using the asdw keys, and wind up spamming chat.

Can you post a link to the explanation of the different action buttons? Action Button and Self Action Button seem to do the same thing. The Special and Secondary Action Buttons only go up to 10. I want to be able to assign to buttons on the mouse to the Right, Right 2, Bottom Left and Bottom Right Action Bars.
The help file does not explain the correlation between what is available and what is in the game.
      Thanks.

Yep same, wish I had read alot of these forums before shelling out for 2 of these piles of crap.
There support page is non existent, the PDF that comes with it just basically says that macros that work in game should be fine. So I copied all mine over and non work, just ends up spamming chat like an idiot.
Any ideas on macro creation as normal wow techniques definatly do not work and these mice will be heading back to the store rapid if they dont do there jobs.

Hello, I just installed Windows 7 on my new machine and I can’t get the drivers to work at all. I installed the latest drivers and they look to install just fine, I notice the difference that the mouse app is not auto started as it was on my old xp but it runs fine if I start it. But my mouse does not respond in WoW to what ever action is set on the buttons. For example the right button next to the wheel does not open the “bags”. I have tried to set a few of the default actions as well as some keybinds but nothing makes any difference what so ever. Anyone here that have the mouse working in Windows 7 that could offer any help? Did you do anything more then just install the file?

Ok I got it working now. I went to the install folder of the mouse app and the driver64 folder then right clicked the xpinstall64.exe and run as administrator. First I just got it working with default settings, but after closing the app and wow a few times and then starting the app from system tray I can now do key changes that apply directly =)

I have been using WoW MMO Mouse for a couple of weeks under Windows 7 RC, installed the driver from the downloads page, and although it installs and when program is loaded it recognizes mouse clicks, on computer restart it doesn’t load. Also, it doesn´t remain on notification bar or memory.

Do I have to make something special with the driver/program on W7? Such as compatibility mode, registry edition or so?

i was hopin’ to free up action bar space by assigning macro’s directly to mouse buttons but have only been able to build macros in game, assign them to action bar slots, then assign that action bar # to mouse key? admittedly i’m clueless but even help n support show utterly different macro page than on my mouse?:( has any designers sat an used this tool to any extent? was new producer stuck w/ old dies? who’s idea to make working end large and palm end narrow?:( ergonomically unfunctional, awkward, cumbersome to grip an maintain touch on buttons:( i’v had to reconfigure, past an add on all kinds of implements just to make preferable over my $20 mouse..initially?..extreme disappointment..tho improving w/ rebuild..tho admmitedly new to tool i hope to find more value than thus discovered in programmable keys..ty

To get version 1.05 of the drivers working on Windows 7 RC, I did a right-click properties on the install exe and then clicked Vista Compatability and run as Admin. After Install I did the same with the GUI exe file.
Now everything works. Keys 4 & 5 work, illumination changes work, all key assignments are saved etc.
I did have to disable my firewall to download armory data for some bizzare reason.
I haven’t tried macros yet, but happy so far.

Can we get support to bind the keys to keyboard keys? It would be much easier to write macro’s in WoW, then bind them to keys like [ or ].

Your macro system just does not work, and I’m pretty disappointed so far, other than the lighting effects.

An update for this would be mucho appreciated.

I am able to play WoW for a few minutes and then my mouse buttons stop working, I have to close WoW and open the task manager then just close it and it works again for another few minutes. It also happens, not as often, when I just use the computer.

I just purchased this mouse and am having a problem assigning one key to this. I currently use Bartender 4 and have my blizzard spell mapped and uses X as the casting key. All I want to do is map one of the keys on the mouse to use this key to cast blizzard. It will not do so. What am I missing? Shouldn’t I be able to just have the X be programmed as a custom macro and it work?

I know there is a workaround with 3′rd party software, but still, I want to have fully functional drivers that benefits from all of the features that your hardware is capable of!

      Hi all,
If you not already have done it, then upgrade to driver patch 1.06.
From what I can read on the Steelseries FAQ is MAC supported in game after WoW patch 3.3.
For mapping mouse buttons in-game see this FAQ:
      http://faq.steelseries.com/questions/156/How+can+I+bind+the+buttons+on+my+WoW+Mouse+without+leaving+the+game%3F

I haven’t tried it yet, but will tonight… hope it works :-)
