It still DOESN’T fix anything about kinzu’s positive acceleration !!!

I’ve tried all the DPI and USB rate settings, still doesn’t work out for my mouse

ATLEAST THEY’RE SUPPORTING AND UPDATING….. you can’t be serious if you want all the problems to be fixed with 1 or 2 updates. Just have more patiance, I’m sure the guys from Steelseries will fix them with a couple of updates in the near future. :)

Still a joke to sell this crap as “pro gaming” mice.. I mean positive acceleration that you can’t fix on a mouse, in 2009, wth.

I don’t feel the acceleration anymore during playing. BUT there is still the acceleration. When i slip the mouse slowly there is no acceleration, mid speed there isnt still but when i slip it fast i feel the acceleration. So, high sensitivity players should’nt feel the acceleration anymore at all.

Now the mouse is ALMOST perfect IMO. Just have to buy new mouseskatez which isn’t possible yet (?) and friends prefer buying the DOT too so i think i have to buy it also.

THX ALOT for the newest update and I hope other ppl don’t mind of the little acceleration.

Actually the acceleration, at least for me, helps aiming alot. I mean if u slip the mouse very fast it might be annyoing for the low, low/mid and mid sensitivty players but when u try to aim the enemy the mouse kinda just goes to where ever u want it to go. :D This might sound weird but i mean that the acceleration hasn’t made by mistake that there is a reason why they put the acceleration on it.

    I.M.O remember that :D

Dunno how ppl could play with the old updates. I mean the pro players (at least f0rest) didnt feel the acceleration at all. When i asked him about the acceleration he just said “Sry, can’t help you, cause i’m the one who can’t feel the acceleration). With old drivers there was WAY too much acceleration. I still found it annyoing when i used CPI 400, 6/11 and 4 sensitivity ingame. THAT’S VERY HIGH SENSITIVITY I mean it was crazy back then. But now, with new drivers i feel more comfourtable.

f0rest stop using kinzu after few weeks, now he uses krait again ! haha

and how can you say it’s perfect with acceleration ??

sorry but I cannot play when I want my mouse to turn 30 degree but it becomes sometimes 40, some 42, some 45, some 33 v.v.. it’s so random and useless for high-level game

that`s right, f0rest don`t use the kinzu anymore since weeks (for example @ WCG) !! and you will see that at WEM when fnatic is playing.

the xai performance is ok - BUT only at my razer pad !! on my QCK heavy it has tracking problems - wtf ? that`s really weird and i don`t want to buy the 9D extra for xai O_o i hate plastic pads.

and about my kinzu : the new driver fixed my shut off problem and my cpi/hz settings if i turn on the pc doesn`t chance anymore

so 2 problems are now fixed thanks steelseries. only the pos acceleration is present !!

fanboy alert ? i don`t f****** care which “pro” is playing with which mouse o_O i like the kinzu because of it`s shape and weight. the mouse is perfect for me as casual gamer - i don`t need laser sensor and sidebuttons

new driver is good it fixed my shut off problems now :)

still i have positive accel, but i can live with that, i`m a casual gamer not a pro/tournament player

I think they use XAI ’cause I dont’ see the redlight (kinzu use optical sensor) when they lift the mouse off

    @ orion :

i’m not a fan of f0rest, i also dont care who player is playing with which mouse. what I care more is how they play in-game

I like the shape of kinzu and all I need is Kinzu mouse has to work normally ( not positive acceleration )

Still some positive acceleration ( only with some real fast movements/flickshots though ) hope it will be fixxed soon :) for the rest an awesome mouse.

btw for those complaining about the mousefeet ( they are indeed worthless, tested on qck heavy )
just buy some steelseries MS glides ( intelli 1.1/3.0 glides ) they will fit perfect under your xai/kinzu aswell ;)

PS: bought my kinzu today, almost immediatly replaced them with ss glides ^^

“Don’t buy Steelseries products” is now the message I’m spreading.
After spending 70€ on a mouse (Xai) one would expect it to atleast track properly.. Wrong.
Well atleast you must get a good customer support for that money? It’s been over 3 weeks now when I reported the tracking issues via proper channels. There has been no word.
They just want your money using the faces of some CS players who claim to use their products. Altho it’s impossible to play competitive on these products.
SteelSeries is all about marketing. Too bad I had to find it out this way.

Actually this makes me wonder if the “high dpi/cpi” marketing game is the root cause for all these. I started seeing all these mouse start-up-unresponsive and skipping mouse issue occasionally with 4000dpi lachesis. now the same seems to be reported for 5000cpi xai.

They are either too sensitive for some tracking surface or might be teething problems for these high res sensors.

Seems like based on past experiences with IMOs, my current sidewinder X3 feels more sturdy.

    @ dmt :

actually it is “don’t buy steels mouses”. they seem to have problems with their mouses. their mousepads and headphones are pretty awsome :D . and to be honest, their customer service is so good. last year, I bought a Ikari in USA and get in replaced in VietNam within 5 days, amazing :D

    @ artic :

And I dont know why they(manafacturer) always try to produce the mouse with so high CPI/DPI ?? when obviously nobody will use the mouse with that so high speed ?? high CPI/DPI proves nothing to the quality of the mouse.

Does it make sense when you use the mouse with 3200DPI/CPI or higher and you turn down your windows sensitivity to 1/11 ??

Look at the legendary Microsoft IE 1.1 and 3.0. The shape and the tracking sensor are the most important part of the mouse not the speed of the mouse (which can be speed up easily in windows mouse sensitivity). Though IE1.1 and 3.0 suffer some skipping-problem but it’s fixed easily with 500hz on them (default 125hz)

    @robocop

I’m guessing it is just misguided marketing hype for “one-up-manship”, me-better-than-you comparison for kids that don’t know better. Example, even if so called pro-gramers use only up to 2000dpi, selling a 2000dpi mouse would seem inferior compared to Razer’s 4000dpi for example.

As I remember, Steelseries have some articles claim that high DPI and CPI is nothing

    http://www.fragyou.net/?page_id=24

and they say some when being interviewed on gotfrag.com :D

    it’s funny to see that

“All kinds of different manufacturers promise the Holy Grail when it comes to describing what their mice can do. Laser technology, 4.000 DPI, a high number of buttons, Burst-Fire-Button, glowing colors, gold-plated USB connectors and “always on hyper ultra something” are just some of the features that are offered to us, in the mouse manufacturers quest of making their potential customer one of the top gamers in the world. According to these companies every top gamer would be even better when using a 4.000 DPI laser mouse. “For gamers by gamers”, “created for gaming”, “the ultimate gaming mouse”, “hardcore gaming” – you’ll find all these statements, and many more, when browsing today’s gaming mice.”

    @robocop

Well those comments are obviously lifted from Razer’s marketing buzz word. When your box is next to Razer, what’s on the print matters a lot since nothing else can be compared on the shelf. Would an average kid / wannabe pick a 2000 CPI mice over 5600 DPI glowing mice when confronted with both on a shelf? ;-)

Hi. I am in charge of product development for SteelSeries. Here’s some feedback on what we are doing for Kinzu tracking performance.

Mouse tracking is complicated and there are numerous tradeoffs in the parameters to optimize performance at all speeds. We acknowledge that we had positive acceleration, especially on 800 and 1600 CPI. Actually the tracking at fast speeds was pretty good but the tracking at slow speeds was too slow which would lead to a feeling of positive acceleration. We released SW version 1.0.9 to fix it at 800 CPI and then we just released version 1.0.10 to do the same thing at 1600 CPI.

We hope that you see an improvement when using these releases. Make sure you hit the Apply button after opening the SW. The SW doesn’t actually do anything but modify some of the parameters in the mouse memory, but the parameters are not changed until you hit Apply.

We will continue to gather user feedback and conduct tests on parameter changes and will probably have additional releases in the future. We’ll keep trying to make it better and better.

Hi, I am using the Kinzu at 1600 CPI and just installed 1.0.10.
Now the Kinzu seems to skip pixels (but only at 1600 CPI, which makes sense with the information Arnie provided) when moving. “Pixel-perfect” aiming is not possible anymore (only at other CPI-values).
Another thing that occured only after the update: the Kinzu freezes several seconds every hour or so.

Are there others with similar problems?

I didn’t mean that Windows 7 was the reason for the acceleration, I was implying that maybe the fact all of these software updates didn’t effect my mouse is because of Windows 7. I have used this mouse on Windows XP and I still get massive amounts of acceleration.

Ok, i resolved the freezes/poweroff mouse got @3200 DPI, it was just the mousefeets too large.
Playing with the default one is perfect but it isn’t smoothly like i want so i just keep them off and play without mfeets till i get some good 0.18mm feets.

ethan it looks like you have only bad luck with your kinzu. after steelseries released the 1.0.8 driver, my skipping and acceleration problems are completely gone, when i play on my old 4D pad.

it looks like 90 % of the kinzu users have no problems anymore since the 1.0.9/1.0.10 updates. well i couldn`t find any more problem reports in forums, only from a few people like you here @ frag you.

i can`t blame steelseries for that, because it`s normal that there a problems at the beginning. i remember the time when razer released the deathadder. the first 4 months this mouse was a piece of shit, now it`s one of the most popular gaming mouses in the world. i`m sure the kinzu and xai will be popular too.

look a the WEM masters, some players of the chinese pro teams wNv and tyloo or fnatic|f0rest (you can see it at pictures for proof!!) playing with the kinzu. they wouldn`t play with it when this mouse is bad

the kinzu mouse is now working great for most people now. so ethan, plz stop tell the whole world since weeks, how bad the steelseries support is, or what kind a piece of shit the kinzu mouse is, only based on your own bad experience.

it`s nothing against you personal ethan.

Regarding Kinzu feet, we now have replacement feet available. They are available in teflon which is the same material used on our Xai and Ikari. Teflon glides with less friction than the feet that come on Kinzu. So you can pick the amount of friction you want. The replacement feet will be available on our website in the next couple of days. Arnie, going through comments it seems people (including myself) at 1600CPI have skipping problems since the 1.0.10 update, good work on the rest but need update 1.0.11 for the skipping @ 1600CPI to be over.

Nice Arnie, to bad they aren’t put under standard, as some people don’t even know you can even buy other mouseglides, a lot of people ( especially people using cloth, and a lot are ) will think this mouse is awefull, because it really glides awefull with the standard skates.

I can imagine you guys can’t send free mouseskates to every person that has bought the Kinzu, but it would be good for the future buyers to put them on standard. If you advert with a pro gaming mouse, I think that also includes pro mouse skates.

I second that, mouse skates or teflon feet should come equipped.

I haven’t tested Kinzu without glidez, I put them on the moment I got home with the mouse, but I can imagine skatez were mandatory.

Still waiting for an update to fix the 1600 skipping. 3200 is just too high a sensitivity for windows (6th notch in the control panel is a must).

    @ deki:
I discovered, that when switching the CPI of the Kinzu, the Kinzu does not skip Pixels anymore at 1600 CPI - but only if you move the Kinzu very, very slowly. When moved fast, it starts skipping again. Same for you?

  66. deki - LowLandLions

    @ blueslobster:

don’t really know what u mean with switching the CPI of the kinzu and then moving slowly or something, i just know that since i updated to 1.0.10 it started skipping, regardless if u move fast or slow. I’m currently using 800DPI 4/11 WIN as a replacement till i can use 1600 again.

I recommend the same to 1600CPI players until the update is done, 800 4/11 feels almost the same as 1600 3/11.

    @bluelobster:

not for me, no. at 1600 it skips no matter how fast i move the mouse. however, since the skipping is of about 5px (i doubt it’s relative to the mouse speed), i have no chance of noticing that at high speeds.

@1600cpi & 6/11 winspeed just try to draw something in paint to see it will skips 1-2 pixels.

using @3200cpi & 3/11 winspeed by now, but 6/11 like someone mentioned should be better :P

Anyway the skipping pixels looks like when you set Winspeed >6/11 like 10/11 that it skips pixels long segments of pixels…

What I meant was the following: Set both CPI-modes of the Kinzu to 1600 CPI in the Kinzu-configuration. Click the button which switches between the two (in this case identical) CPI-modes.
After this, you should be able to move the Kinzu without it skipping pixels - but only if you move the Kinzu very slowly. If you move the Kinzu too fast, it starts skipping again …

Btw: When using 3200 CPI, you should use Windows-settings of 4/11 and not 3/11, when you want to imitate 1600 CPI at 6/11.

many people still have problems with kinzu here !

I’m using kinzu with 800dpi with 1.0.10 software version and it’s much better than before but STILL HAVE some minor positive acceleration.

I still have MAJOR positive acceleration with the latest update. I can’t tell the difference from the original firmware and this one, at all.

yeah its pretty frustrating it felt better but there is still positive accel its hard to be consistent when your hardware isn’t. the mouse feels accurate but then you have to deal with hardware inconsistencies

I have a kinzu, which I gonna use tomorrow for the first time, and I have read all the things everyone says about the positive acc. I just wonder, a basic thought - how often do you turn around 360 in any game without lifting your mouse up? I mean, is that acceleration even noticable? I will try to feel for myself, and stop imitating the problem. BUT if there is a positive acceleration which works as a disappointment in game, well than that sucks, and steelseries should fix that!

    76

well its not that everyone does 360’s you get acceleration when swiping the mouse faster over a larger surface so the people that use medium and low sensitivities have problems and see the acceleration more often. i don’t see it often but its frustrating when it happens in a crucial moment.

when are low-sens people going to come to terms with the fact that their being unable to control their hand movement demands the hindering low sens.

there are CS players that use high sens. there are quake players that use huge sens.

rather then looking for the perfect mouse able to cover huge distances really fast, you should make changes in the way you play. stop mimicking top players, find your own style.

i have the kinzu and i am perfectly happy with it. the 1600cpi skipping forced me to use 3200cpi (6th notch windows) and i have adjusted to the speed increase in 24 hours.

    Alex,
People shouldn’t have to change they way they play because of an incompetent mouse. The mouse should NOT have positive acceleration. I can understand negative acceleration, because that just means the sensor can’t keep up with the movements. It seems SteelSeries is trying to force an algorithm to compensate for the negative acceleration. I am sure almost 85% of people using the Kinzu would prefer negative acceleration over positive acceleration. If players wanted to use acceleration, they would do so via software commands, not because of their mouse.

    79

it seems i haven’t made my point.
had the difficulty of finding a good mouse been the only deterrent for low sensitivity, you would be right.
but, on top of that, low-sense players are hindered by their inability to turn quickly.
i will give them that valve is yet to include an accel tweak in CS, but still:
    1. good mice are hard to find;
    2. slow turning;
    3. wearing mice and pads quicker;
    4. big space requirements.

the answer to all is high sense and they ignore it.

Fact: Low sensitivity is more consistent and more precise.

Why do they need to change? They don’t. There are plenty of mice out there that can handle a low sensitivity, the SteelSeries Kinzu is not one of them.

The answer is not high sensitivity.

    @ daniel d:

I guess that not even SteelSeries has access to the firmware part that affects the sensor and the tracking algorithms. Probably they have to wait for a fix from Avago like we do.

    @ alex:

The Xai doesn’t have linear acceleration, like you can activate in your settings, so it affects low sensers and high sensers alike. There is no acceleration at all when you change your movement speed from medium to high. But somewhere between very slow and slow/mid moves, there is an elevation of speed.
So after all it probably affects high sensers even more because they have to do more of the slow moves than low sensers.

And I tell you one more thing: In the end it doesn’t matter much if you are using high or low sens. It’s much more important to match your sens to the mousepad you use (probably the most important thing!), to the shape of the mouse and your own ability of either doing extremely small, precise moves or doing extremely fast moves.

    Well, i just fixed this.

First my cpi settings were CPI1 3200 and CPI2 3200. Pulling Rate 1000, Acceleration off.
And i had some shitty acceleration in game, after instaling CPL mousefix it was the same, and may other ways the acceleration was still there.

And now comes the funny part :)
I just changed CPI1 to 3200 and CPI2 to 1600, unpluged and pluged my mouse in…and that was it…no more acceleration for me.

    I just f*** lol’d :)

The mouse still is skipping pixels at 1600 CPI which makes it a torture to use it at this setting. In addition the mouse sometimes freezes or jumps wildly overy the screen.

Aside the one post from “Arnie” (Post #44), there has been no communication regarding the Kinzu problems whatsoever.
    My support-ticket never was answered.

I suggest to keep your Kinzu if it does not freeze and you dont have to use it at 1600 CPI. Otherwise I would get rid of it because it seems like danield suggested: it does not look like there is going to be a fix - ever.
