Kim Rom in new interview on HardwareHeaven

Wednesday, February 3rd, 2010

HardwareHeaven took on Kim Rom, for a chat on everything SteelSeries. Touching on both Kim’s personal experiences and preferences as Chief Marketing Officer here in the company, the interview also revolves heavily around product development and SteelSeres in 2010.

This question especially should spark some excitement:

HH:
What do you see as being your most important product of 2010?

Kim Rom:
Okay, so… This is going to sound lame: We are announcing a new product within a few months that I believe will set a new benchmark for that type of product. We have been working on it for so long, we have put so much time into it, and we have come up with some ideas that I seriously think will wow just about everyone. My CEO would strangle me (very slowly, and very painfully) if I revealed what it was, and I realize that all this sounds like a lame marketing spiel, but this product is really just awesome in many ways. I see that baby as our most important product for the core competitive scene in 2010. When we release I suggest we give some to your readers and get their opinion on it… I am confident they will be wowed.

Without making this sound like the ending scene of a dreadful hollywood action/romance blockbuster, “we never thought we would have come this far”.

Yesterday we had the pleasure of announcing that the Siberia v2 Headset has been selected for The 52nd Annual GRAMMY® Awards performers and presenters gift bag, which a serious milestone for the brand itself and a serious spark of excitement within us - the people at SteelSeries. :)

SteelSeries featured on GamerLiveTV

Friday, January 15th, 2010

During CES we sat down with a long list of media to present the recently released SteelSeries products - one of the journalists being Jo Garcia from GamerLiveTV. Kim Rom met with Jo and covered features, pricing, quality, development and basically everyhing you want to know about a new product, boiled down to a nice six-minute flick.

“Eeeeerrrrhm, what to get for Christmas?”

The Siberia v2. Simple as that - at least according to Gear Live. Writer Alex Lifschitz explains why:

“…The headset itself is very, very comfortable - I’ve been able to wear it for hours without my ears hurting, thanks in part to the plush feax-leather lining. The quality is superb, with deep bass and effective surround sound, but for me, the it’s the little things that count - such as the retractable microphone hidden in the earcups themselves. Best of all, you can have this luxury for just slightly under a benjamin on Amazon.”

If you’re more into the Siberia v2 USB, Gamerztech dropped a 10/10 rating on that headset last week - check out the review.

Zboard featured in upcoming Russian blockbuster

Friday, November 27th, 2009

This Russian movie trailer for “Na Igre” flew by my inbox today, featuring the SteelSeries Zboard in a really awesome sequence. Check the clip below:

The plot is, narrowed down, about a group talented gamers each dominating the competitive aspect of their title of choice. Supposedly they then gain the gaming skills that they each posses, in real life through a tournament win, only to face some serious trouble/action. :)

Have a great weekend!

Feature: don’t believe the hype!

Thursday, September 13th, 2007

As you, hopefully, know by now, we recently announced the SteelSeries Ikari mice. One optical mouse and one laser mouse. Since we announced the mice a few weeks ago, we have been asked the same two questions over and over:

    1. How many DPI will your mouse have?
    2. What’s so special about your mouse?

The first question is mostly asked because many gamers have unfortunately been convinced by marketing hype that “DPI” is actually something important (and really, it’s not). The second question is something we can answer very simply: because we feel we have something to add to the genre.

Read this feature where we touch some of the marketing hype and misinformation that surrounds conventional “laser mice for gaming”. The feature also details some of the new technology that will be featured in the SteelSeries Ikari mice, including the introduction of SteelSeries TrueMove, SteelSeries ExactSens and SteelSeries XY2.
