Both Funky Kit and XtremeSystems recently put the SteelSeries Xai Laser Mouse through their labs with awesome results.

Funky Kit’s Will Smith found that he “[..] never would have thought that professional gaming accessories such as a laser mouse, can be so technically advanced.”, while Winkston over at XtremeSystems “[..] really enjoyed this mouse, and [..] would strongly recommend its purchase.”

“… Amazing audio quality.”

LanOC just published their review of the SteelSeries 7H headset, concluding in both a Recommended- and Editor’s Choice Award. Here’s a few quotes from reviewer Wes Compton:

“The audio quality of the 7H when listening to music was truly impressive. In game it was no different. Not only was the audio quality top notch but the directionality in game is great as well. The 7H’s audio quality is where it shows why this is Steel Series’s flagship headset. In fact my biggest problem was finding MP3’s of the higher quality in my collection.”

“At just under $130 this isn’t a cheap headset but you are no doubt getting your money’s worth.”

Initial 7H reviews are up!

Across Europe, the first SteelSeries 7H reviews are popping up and I figured I’d give you guys a rundown below. I realize that some of you might not be fluent in the languages, so I translated the conclusions - and, understandable or not, each review features awesome detailed shots of the 7H, worth checking out as well. :-)

Here we go:

Asking professional gamers what they need, culminated in this awesome headset. There’s nothing more to add - SteelSeries did a pretty good job here. From me, this headset gets a purchasing recommendation and it’s a must-have for every professional gamer, or for everyone who is looking for a new headset. It is an investment that last for a long time and you won’t find a better headset anywhere.

SteelSeries 7H contains good and practical improvements and can easily be described as a regular upgrade to the 5Hv2. Only a very few little things have surprised me en route, such as missing labeling of female plugs on the extension cords, and perhaps the coupling of the earcups could have been practical and solid. The price over at SteelSeries is 99,99 EUR which corresponds to 745 DKK. This means that, if Googled well, you might be able to find the headset online in the range of 600 DKK which pretty much is todays’ average price of a gaming headset, that is also expected to perform it comes to music, movies and voice chat - and the 7H does just that.

01net.com (French) - REVIEW LINK
Score: 5/5
Award: Editors’ Choice
Quote:

“We have a true favorite in the 7H, even though we find it to be powerful than the Siberia v2. The comfort, isolation, quality and finish are simply perfect. The microphone, although sensitive to adjustments, is an excellent model. Everything is priced at 100 euros only and, despite some flaws, we assign five stars.”

PC Games Hardware (German) - PRINT
Score: 1,51 (beating 14 headsets in the comparison test)
Award: TOP-PRODUKT
Quote:

“All three reviewers liked the comfy feeling of the 7H; the relatively high pressure ensures a tight fit without annoyance due to soft padding[…]

With a powerful bass, that leaves space for sophisticated high and detailed mid tones, the 7H is very well suitable for gaming and music…”

“SteelSeries, well done…”

Monday, May 3rd, 2010

The SteelSeries Xai Laser Mouse made it through the HEXUS lab testing with a serious stamp of approval on its back.

null

Here’s what reviewer Matty Hodgson concluded:

“The Xai is excellent, and definitely one worth your money, it performs well in all areas, looks very modest, and is extremely comfortable. The price, at around £60, may be out of reach of some gamers, but I feel the extra outlay is definitely worth it considering how much mouse you’re actually getting. SteelSeries, well done, this is a brilliant mouse.”

Germany knows quality

Friday, March 26th, 2010

A fresh Xai video review just popped in - this time from Germany. Now, non-Germans might be thinking “right, useless..” - but even if you don’t understand a single word, this video is still worth watching.

I can reveal that the reviewer is recommending this mouse, but what really impressed me was the quality, crispness and depth of the video review. YouTubers, get inspired!

Have a great weekend. :-)

Kicking off the week in style…

Monday, March 15th, 2010

WoodTV and Elite Bastards published each of their SteelSeries product reviews today, which both turned out to be too good not to mention. Check below for a few snippets of the reviews and direct links. :)

WoodTV on the SteelSeries Xai - quote:
“In the description, SteelSeries says the Xai is a “tool - not a gadget… The technology, shape, size, weight and surface of the SteelSeries Xai were designed with one purpose: to enhance the users performance.” To that I have to say: mission accomplished. I loved testing this mouse and if I needed a new one would have to strongly consider it. It’s definitely up there with the top gaming mice I’ve reviewed.”

null

Elite Bastards on the SteelSeries Siberia v2 Headset - quote:
“Overall then, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed using the Siberia v2 throughout my time with the unit, to the point where it’s become the first device I reach for when I need some headphones (and I do have a fair few pairs laying around these days). If you need a gaming headset, then the Siberia v2 really is nearly faultless for this particular task, and even for the more casual gamers or those who require a microphone from time to time, this unit also doubles up admirably as a good pair of headphones in their own right, particularly if you prefer over-ear to in-ear devices for that particular task.”

PC Gamer awards Xai Editor’s Choice

Friday, February 5th, 2010

Feeling sort of an awesome feeling of rendezvous creeping in, I’m happy to let you guys know that PC Gamer has awarded the SteelSeries Xai Laser Mouse with an Editor’s Choice award and a 95% score - as it happened with the SteelSeries Ikari Laser back in 2008 (97%, though).

null

PC Gamer wrote:

“The Xai is in every way equal to the SteelSeries Ikari - the hands-down best gaming mouse of all time that received a whooping 97% in October 2008 - except for one thing: It’s ambidextrous, with two thumb buttons on each side.

That, as a right-hander, I much prefer the contours of the Ikari is rather predictable, but doesn’t diminish the Xai’s internal hardware, including a laser that picks up more megapixels than my camera and boasts SteelSeries’ peerless tracking.

Oh, and there’s the extra-fancy 32×128 display tucked underneath the mouse, which allows you to swap profiles and save settings without ever having to use the included software (which is exceptionally well-designed - simple, minimal, effective). So take notice, right-handers: the lefties just leveled the playing field.”

VERDICT: 95% - Editor’s Choice Award.

US residents, make sure to pick up this months issue as it, besides the SteelSeries Xai review, also has a SteelSeries Kinzu feature.

Have a great weekend. :-)

Quick heads up on a few recently released reviews for the SteelSeries Kinzu. I’ve been screaming quite a lot about the Xai lately, but the Kinzu is definitely getting quite the attention from reviewers as well.

This time around, Hardwareheaven and Vortez Hardware took a closer look - check the reviews on the links below. :)

Hardwareheaven - verdict: 9/10, Value Award

More love for the Xai

Thursday, January 7th, 2010

Quick heads-up on the two recent SteelSeries Xai reviews from CrunchGear and TechPowerUp, who published their take on the laser mouse in the past week.

CrunchGear found the performance of the Xai to be “beyond reproach” and the design came across as “refreshing”. Finishing quote form reviewer Devin Coldewey: “… the Xai is really an excellent choice for almost anybody.”

TechPowerUp also took on the Xai, stating that we have “definitely pulled it off again” and thinks that the Xai “beats many of the seemingly better equipped mice from rivaling brands”.

“Amazingly Ambidextrous”

Wednesday, December 30th, 2009

“… possibly the best ambidextrous gaming mouse I’ve ever used.” Matt Buchanan does not go easy when kicking off his SteelSeries Xai review over on Gizmodo.

Especially the ambidextrous form factor, LCD screen and menu as well as the profile system are very well received.
