Good enough for the catwalk

October 15th, 2007

Whoever said that gaming gear looked stupid? Some fanzy panzy people from the fashion industry obviously didn’t and used the SteelSeries Siberia Full-size headset in an ad-campaign.

We also caught a picture on a forum of our SteelSeries Experience I-2 in a beautiful setting with the Apple Mighty Mouse.

Taiwan, day2.

September 14th, 2007

Today we went to vist Ultimax Gaming (UMX), the best Counter-Strike team in Taiwan. SpawN told the team about his experiences in gaming and gave some of his input on the mindset that teams need to win today. He also played a game with the team, destroying a team from southern Taiwan.

Tomorrow is all about headshots. We move into FNAC in Taipei, where some of the best gamers in Taiwan has already signed up to challenge SpawN. Pictures and video online soonish.

Feature: don’t believe the hype!

September 13th, 2007

As you, hopefully, know by now, we recently announced the SteelSeries Ikari mice. One optical mouse and one laser mouse. Since we announced the mice a few weeks ago, we have been asked the same two questions over and over:

    1. How many DPI will your mouse have?
    2. What’s so special about your mouse?

The first question is mostly asked because many gamers have unfortunately been convinced by marketing hype that “DPI” is actually something important (and really, it’s not). The second question is something we can answer very simply: because we feel we have something to add to the genre.

Read this feature where we touch some of the marketing hype and misinformation that surrounds conventional “laser mice for gaming”. The feature also details some of the new technology that will be featured in the SteelSeries Ikari mice, including the introduction of SteelSeries TrueMove, SteelSeries ExactSens and SteelSeries XY2.

Spawn-point: Taiwan.

September 13th, 2007

After (what feels like) the longest flight in the world, me and SpawN finally arrived in Taiwan.

We are here to do a couple of shootouts and inspect a new gaming surface (which we will be announced soon). The atmosphere in Taiwan is really awesome, everyone we have met has been so friendly and we expect some of the best Taiwanese players to show up for the two shootouts.

We will post a gallery and a report from the shootouts within the next few days.

SteelSeries reviews for 04-09-2007

September 4th, 2007

As a new thing we will begin posting quotes from some of the weekly reviews of our products, here on the blog. Save to say there is a whole lot of love for SteelSeries products worldwide ;)

Team Excello
“The headset effectively blocks background noise” it says on the website and I totally agree. It REALLY blocks background noises which is great for those who listens to music on the metro or bus’ Icemat Siberia In:Ear Headset also includes a separate unidirectional microphone with a clip-on function. The microphone is really good and provides great sound…”

BCCHardware.com
The QcK+ is a marvelous product that didn’t disappoint one bit. I was very impressed by the amount of surface area that you get with the product, and the quality is excellent. During my testing on my glass desk, there was no slipping of the mouse pad, and I didn’t have to worry about running out of room to move my mouse during gameplay.”
8.75 / 10

DT-Gaming
The PadSurfers makes the mouse glide across the pad very smoothly and increases mouse tracking which is important when you are gaming. Accuracy was all there, my instagibbing and awping was more consistent then before and doing a 180°C to dodge them flashbangs has become child’s play.”
9.5 / 10

APHNetworks
At roughly $60 USD MSRP, the SteelSeries SX claims to be one mousepad without compromise. Its aim is to create the ultimate gaming surface. We can see that — from an engineering and designing point of view, the SteelSeries SX is certainly a unique mousepad of its own. In general, although we do review our share of mousepads, it takes quite a bit for APH Networks to positively recommend one. The SteelSeries SX is certainly the kind of mousepad that we would positively rate and recommend!”

Entertainmentopia
Once again testing the unit with our Logitech G5 mouse, the QcK performed great in World of Warcraft and everyday operations like browsing your desktop. Not once did we need to stop, and readjust the mousepads position on the desk because of pressure and slippage. The QcK is an excellent, affordable, and well manufactured mouse pad from one of the leaders in gaming-geared accessories.”
Editors Choice

The Web Log Experiment
I absolutely love this pad. If you’re willing to shell out a little money for a great pad, then you can’t go wrong with the SteelPad 5L. I can comfortably say it’s the best mouse pad I’ve ever used, and I have absolutely no desire to use anything else.”

ESWC 2007.

July 10th, 2007

One of the biggest eSports events in 2007 took place this weekend in Paris, France. Electronic Sports World Cup (ESWC) is usually one of the better events to visit and this year was no exception. It’s somewhat surprising that most European and American events still fail to entertain spectators and make an event interresting to visit, but the organizers of ESWC usually puts on a good show - this year was no exception. As a spectator it was amazingly easy to be constantly updated on round-by-round scores, and the main stage was as impressive as ever.

For SteelSeries and the teams we work with, this was an amazing weekend. The ladies in SK Gaming took the championship title in Counter-Strike Female, while PGS Gaming took the championship in Counter-Strike male. Both teams were using the full suite of products from SteelSeries, something we are all very proud of.

SK Ladies

I managed to sneak into the SK ladies “dressing room”, right before they played the finals against the Chinese girls. Their manager, Alex, wanted to go over the tactics one las time..

SK Ladies

And accidently opened a nude picture of himself..

At the show we announced the new SteelSeries Siberia Neckband Headset. So far reactions have been positive, people generally seems to like the design. The main concern I have heard so far is fear that the headset won’t be comfortable (and don’t worry, it is :P). Picture below..
